Surrey Schools at Littleton 2002

Autumn finally arrived on October 12th at the Surrey Schools Littleton regatta - overcast skies and steady rain greeted the 46 boats from Surrey Schools and Affiliated groups. With the rigging, briefing and safety boat preparation completed, racing started at 11.00 am. The rain stopped, a force 2-3 easterly breeze with flat calm to strong gusts around the clubhouse area, continuing throughout the day.

A combined slow and fast fleet handicap race, a class race and a scratch race made up the mornings events, 27 boats competed in the slow fleet, and 14 in the fast fleet. With the lead changing around the course, the leading boats received much applause from the spectators on the club balcony.

After lunch at the new Waterside Café, the competitors completed two more handicap races.

Andrew Beacorn - Royal Grammar School - won the Laser class and the Fast Fleet handicap, Laura Glover - Wey Activities Group - won the scratch race in her Optimist. The Topper class and slow fleet handicap was won by Sam Eversfield of Island Barn and James Pateman and Gareth Davies won the Enterprise class
