On 28th June 2010 during the AGM it was proposed and fully supported that, due to changes in legislation and the way that sailing now runs in Surrey schools, the Association should be dissolved. The organisation of schools' racing would be devolved to sailing clubs, with support from the member groups that sailed at those clubs.
The move has seen increased entry and participation at all events.
Anybody interested in taking part in schools racing in Surrey should contact their local sailing club. Links to the clubs the Association has previously worked with can be found on our links page.
The final Committee raised a vote of thanks to all the staff, pupils and parents who have made the Association such a success over the years. Without its existence thousands of children would not have had the opportunity to get involved in sailing.
It is with regret that we say farewell to the Surrey Schools Sailing Association at the end of its 49 year history. The assets of the Association have been liquidated and distributed equally to the three groups actively participating during its final year; namely Guildford High School for Girls, Royal Grammar School Guildford and Wey Adventure Group. An audited copy of our final balance sheet (Adobe PDF) is available for your inspection.
